The Indiana Jones games confront Nazis outside the war, but within the time frame. Turning Point: Fall of Liberty takes WWII into a ‘What if?’ scenario, speculating what the world would be like had Winston Churchill died in 1931 when he was hit by a cab in New York. That number could be higher, as much as 80 million.įor the most part, all of the games are WWII simulation fighting games, whether first person or third person. To date, those games have sold and estimated 75 million copies. The list could go on, but that’s just a few examples. Other series that involve the Third Reich include the Medal of Honor series, the Call of Duty series, the Indiana Jones games, the Brothers in Arms series, Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, Day of Defeat, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, Company of Heroes, the Sniper Elite series, and Enemy Front. The Wolfenstein series has sold over 4 million copies to date, perhaps closer to 5 million, across 10 games and excluding the most recent release. WWII ended in 1945, and 70 years later, eliminating Hitler’s followers is still justified. Yet, no matter what, no matter how many accusations of violence, no one turns to a specific set of games. One of the most controversial is the violence. ![]() Over the years, controversy has befallen the video game industry. Following the game’s success, Id released Doom, and the rest is history. Third, the fact that Id released it as shareware created a massive profit margin for the company. Second, it is largely credited as being the first First Person Shooter, or FPS, to hit the market. First, it was one of the first games to be built using the 3D engine. This game was revolutionary for several reasons. Id Software picked it up, and developed the game we all know, Wolfenstein 3D. ![]() However, in 1991, Muse Software, the developer of the first two games, let the trademark on the name lapse. And the goal in both was to kill as few Nazis as possible, as that would alert the guards and make things much more difficult for the gamer. The sequel, launched in 1984, was similar to the original in its sneaking motif. The first Wolfenstein game came out in 1981, called Castle Wolfenstein, in which the player had to steal secret plans and sneak out of the castle. It also marks that newest installment to a trend that has been happening since the 1980s: killing Nazis. ![]() This latest installment is a prequel to the previous game by Bethesda and MachineGames. May 6 th saw the launch date for Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. ![]()
